The region of Lazio is located in central Italy, its coasts are touched by the Mar Tirreno. The territory is mostly made of hills (54%), mountains (26%) and in a small part by plains (20%).
Lazio has a complete touristic offer: from the sea to the mountains, from the hills to the lakes, going through historic-artistic localities and imposing roman ruins.
The eternal Rome stands out in the local panorama, but the provinces also distinguish themselves for what they can offer.
The mountain, with the Monte Terminillo, dominates the hinterlands of Rieti, where it is possible to practice winter sports or pleasant promenades during the summer, discovering the various little towns that characterise the locality.
In the Sabina, a natural pearl, is located the Riserva Naturale Regionale Tevere Farfa, where it is possible to discover the river's ecosystem, while tasting the typical and delicate oil of the Sabina.
The province of Frosinone amazes for the wide offer hidden within its towns: Anagni, and its medieval palaces, Lago di Posta Fibreno, with its island mentioned by Pliny and the Terme di Fiuggi are only some of the places where culture meets nature and well being.
The sea is the diamond-tip of the province of Latina, the Circeo, Sperlonga and the island of Ponza, but within it gems like Sermoneta and the Parco di Ninfa can be found.
The Middle Ages can also be seen in Viterbo, in its courts and palaces in the historic centre.
In the province of Tuscia are many Etruscan remains, like in Tarquinia.
Rome, with its Colosseum and San Pietro cannot be missed, and Ostia Antica is a valid alternative to the ruins of the historic centre.
The fresh air of the Castelli, in the Parco Regionale dei Castelli Romani, where you can taste the typical wine and the "porchetta" of Ariccia, is an excellent companion for your trips.
Tivoli, with Villa D'Este, Villa Adriana and Lago di Bracciano are other attractions of the province.
Some typical dishes of the region are the Bucatini all'Amatriciana, the tripe, the coda alla vaccinara, which can be tasted with the white wine of Orvieto or the red wine Casanese del Piglio. |
